Van Gogh – A Wheatfield with Cypresses – The National Gallery

I was given this cross stitch kit as a birthday present from a colleague at work and she wanted to see the finished article so knowing it would be a quick project I started it in my Christmas holiday from work.

It’s funny she would choose this particular painting as my brother was tasked at school with painting his version of the same Van Gogh painting, his attempt was so good it’s been in a frame on the wall with a postcard of the original at home for years. Given he was in junior school when he painted it he managed to pick up so much of the detailing, albeit in a far more basic form, that we thought we might have an artist in our midst. Sadly he peaked at copying famous works of arts around the age of 7 and hasn’t touched a brush since!

But I digress. This was a nice little project to work on. There was plenty of detailing and some close colour work that you had to keep an eye on to make sure you were getting the right bits in the right places.

I was quite happy with the way it turned out in the end. It was a nice start to what I hope will be a busy and fun-filled cross stitch year.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year and thank’s to all the people who read my posts and engaged with me online this year.

I’m working on a lot of cross stitch projects that I’ll be sharing this year. My new year’s resolution is to get a handle on all my unfinished stuff before starting any new projects. I find the lure of a shiny new cross stitch kit or a magazine with a cool design in too exciting and I end up starting stuff but never finishing it off. I need to be more disciplined this year or I’ll never finish anything!

I wish you all a Happy 2018 and that you find all the happiness you want next year.
